Developmental Math MOOC Given Gates Grant
Cuyahoga Community College has received a $50,000 grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to develop a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC). CCC will use the grant money to create an open course on developmental math.
They will use CourseSites, a free, cloud-based online learning platform provided by Blackboard. Cuyahoga Community College is already a Blackboard Learn client. Tri-C joins other schools (including Arizona State, Buffalo State, & U. of Illinois Springfield) who are using CourseSites for open education initiatives, including MOOCs. Using a commercial vendor's LMS or a variation on it makes sense for schools because faculty and students are already familiar with the system features and functionality.
