The George Lucas Educational Foundation & Edutopia
The George Lucas Educational Foundation (GLEF) was founded in 1991 as a
nonprofit operating foundation to celebrate and encourage innovation in K-12 public schools. Readers of this blog know my annoyance at with higher ed faculty who ignore things that say "K12" - believe there is much to be learning about good teaching from sources like this one.
They publish a good magazine, Edutopia, with stories of innovative teaching and learning
and much of it and more is available on CD-ROMs,
DVDs, books, and their website. The magazine is a free subscription.
Some samples from the site:
- Interview video with Stanford University professor Linda Darling-Hammond on teacher education.
- "New Skills for a New Century" by Bob Pearlman - an article on how project-based learning teaches kids collaborative and critical thinking skills - most articles can be downloaded as a PDF too.
- Professional development information - such as this piece with accompanying video on using learning communities
